THE MILLING DEPARTMENT includes both manual mills and computer-controlled CNC MILLS. We also retain a large inventory of tooling and fixtures for custom machining needs. Manual machines are capable of three-axis movement with indexing heads.
Manual machining involves the machining of a part on the engine lathe or the manual mill. Both the engine lathe and the basic column-and-knee mill are essential machine tools used to change the size, shape, and finish of a work piece with a variety of cutting tools. The engine lathe is operated manually and is often used for cylindrical work pieces. The manual mill is most often used for rectangular or flat work pieces. Operating a manual machine requires a skilled machinist with a "sense of feel." These classes cover the basic components of the engine lathe and column-and-knee mill and address how these components are used during the various cutting processes. Intermediate-level classes focus on the setup of the engine lathe and mill and instruct on how to perform a variety of cutting operations on sample parts.
Computer-controlled machines are capable of four-axis movement with computer controlled rotary heads. All of the programming for computer controlled machines is completed in-house, utilizing GEO-PATH and MASTER CAM softwares, through a network used by our specialized staff. This department is also capable of handling any job — from a research and development project to a large quantity production order.
CNC stands for Computer Numerically Controlled and refers to a manufacturing machine computer interpreting code to control a power tool which fabricates by selectively removing material.
Custom fixtures are designed by a talented design-engineering department and built by experienced toolmakers for our CNC Machining department. CNC programmers will use the CAD information provided by the design team to produce high-volume and low-volume runs of CNC machined parts. Production happens in our state-of-the-art CNC Equipment to our customer’s custom specifications.
The combination of our years of CNC machining experience and state of the art equipment has placed A1 JAYS MACHINING into a category that few can compete. It is truly the high-tech arena here at A-1 JAY'S MACHINING.
Our CNC department is set up for both volume and quick turnarounds. Modern equipment combined with experienced and skilled machinists means quality products on time. We are capable of manufacturing precision components utilizing our multi-axis CNC milling machines. Using the most current CAD/CAM/CNC software manufacturing technologies, we can also provide our customers with design engineering that may include cost saving manufacturing alternatives such as lights out manufacturing capabilities.
We manufacture everything from short-run prototypes to mass quantities of intricate parts made from a variety of metals including Stainless Steels, Alloy Steels, Aluminum, Titaniumk, Invar, Plastics, Brass, Carbon Steels, Copper and Hard Tool Steels to name a few.
